Carriage House Relocation

Updated: Apr 22, 2020

Our team was able to maintain physical distancing guidelines while still getting out to see this much-anticipated move of a 1880's Victorian Carriage House last week. The historic structure, once part of the Wolcott Estate in Milton, MA, was slated for demolition until our client stepped in to save the building, promising to pay costs to relocate it about 500 yards to his abutting property.

Forte Architecture + Design is architect for the project, which will consist of restoration of the existing structure, along with renovations and alterations to convert the present use as a caretaker's home to a 10-stall horse barn with groom's quarters. A portion of the building added in the 1920's, in disrepair and not able to be relocated, will be reconstructed in period details to match.

The Carriage House is part of a site redevelopment to expand an existing equestrian riding facility and includes an enlarged arena, new paddocks and bridle path, entrance gate and roadway improvements to allow adequate horse trailer access to the site.
